Membership Remediation Policy.

Remediation policy for unsuccessful audits

This policy applies to those who have not been able to demonstrate that they maintained their CPD during the audit process. This includes achieving the required number of points, with sufficient evidence and information, as determined by the committee. There is a different process depending on how many points the member is in deficit.

CPD points are within 25% of the required amount

  • A member can choose to change their membership to a category that is consistent with their CPD points over the last three years.
  • The member must provide the Membership Committee with a reason for not meeting the required points or for not providing sufficient evidence.
  • The Membership Committee will request two additional years of CPD—the year preceding the first audited year and the most recent calendar year once it’s complete. Both must be above the annual requirement, with required points and evidence.
  • If the member cannot show that they maintained CPD above the annual requirement in both of the two additional years, the member will have to undertake the remediation process outlined below.

CPD Points are not within 25% of the required amount

  • A member can choose to change their membership to a category that is consistent with their CPD points over the last three years.
  • The member must complete the competency portfolio relevant to their membership category and other certifications.
  • The member must submit this competency portfolio and required evidence by October 15 of the year they are audited. A reference is not be required.
  • The member will not be able to pay membership dues until the remediation process is completed and therefore will be listed as a member not in good standing.
  • For the following three years, the member will be required to submit their CPD tracking each year by May 1 to the Membership Committee for review.
  • Support will be offered to the member to provide a professional development plan for these three years.
  • If a member does not complete the remediation process, their membership will be cancelled.

If the above steps are not taken following an unsuccessful audit, the member’s membership will be cancelled. No refunds for dues will be issued in this case.

Awareness

This policy is overseen by the Chair of the Membership Committee. If a member believes an error has occurred in the administration of this policy, they may appeal the decision to the CAA Board of Directors. An appeal must be in writing, sent to the Executive Director, and be received within 90 days of the date of the member’s written notification from the Membership Committee Chair. The Board may request or collect additional information, or take any steps deemed necessary, and will deliver a binding decision regarding the member’s CPD compliance within 90 days of the date that the appeal was received.
